Orangutan Veterinary Aid (OVAID) Support Update

In July of 2019, PLH Medical Ltd was involved in the latest Orangutan Veterinary Aid (OVAID) cargo of veterinary equipment and medicines that had been sent out to Indonesia. PLH Medical Ltd has always celebrated the importance of working collaboratively and proactively with a number of charities and the Orangutan Veterinary Aid is no exception.

People with lead aprons

With the assistance of J.A.K. Marketing, PLH Medical Ltd was able to donate lead aprons to the orangutan vet teams who are situated in Indonesia. Lead aprons are a fundamental necessity required to shield volunteers and staff from radiation when using x-ray machines. Staff at OVAID were in need of new protective equipment to allow them to use their equipment safely. The existing sets of aprons owned by the charity were old and starting to degrade; making them potentially unsafe to use.

What is OVAID?

Formed in 2014, Orangutan Veterinary Aid is a zero salary, a voluntary run charity dedicated to providing veterinary equipment, medicines and practical veterinary presence and assistance to rescue groups and centres in Indonesia and Malaysia.

The charity actively assists veterinarians working in the field or Orangutan conservation through up-skilling, training programmes, and the OVAID Bronwyn Watson Scholarship. The charity also considers it vital to spread awareness of the negative effects of deforestation for the Orangutan, countless other wildlife species and human populations.

Orangutan Veterinary Aid (OVAID) Support

We’re incredibly excited and proud to be involved in the latest Orangutan Veterinary Aid (OVAID) cargo of veterinary equipment and medicines that are being sent out to Indonesia (for the orangutan vet teams). PLH Medical Ltd has always celebrated the importance of working collaboratively and proactively with a number of charities and the Orangutan Veterinary Aid is no exception. We hope that our contribution of veterinary equipment along with the other thoughtful companies and individuals (who have also donated) is able to assist the hardworking teams situated in Indonesia.

What is the Orangutan Veterinary Aid?

Formed in 2014, Orangutan Veterinary Aid is a zero salary, voluntary run charity dedicated to providing veterinary equipment, medicines and practical veterinary presence and assistance to Orangutan rescue groups and centres in Indonesia and Malaysia.

OVAID Charity

With the assistance of J.A.K. Marketing, PLH Medical Ltd has been very keen to assist the OVAID charity by donating lead aprons.

J.A.K. Marketing is pleased to be helping UK based charity Orangutan Veterinary Aid by donating 10p from every pack or roll of their Purfect Disposable Drapes purchased. And for every box, they will donate 50p to OVAID. To find out more about the work OVAID do, please visit their website http://www.ovaid.org

Making the move from CR to DR

67% more exams per day. 3285 more patients each year, 8.16 minutes time savings per exam. Up to 50% dose reduction. The numbers are impressive, tempting – and real!

These are actual results experienced by one practice when switching from CR to DR. Combined with decreasing cost and improved return of investment, benefits are making DR an increasingly attractive investment for veterinary practices.

Many practices are now making the move from computed radiography (CR) to digital radiography (DR). Especially with DR becoming an increasingly attractive choice. While some veterinary practices are in the midst of this move, others are still weighing up their options.

Even though both technologies share certain similarities, often the differences between them may not be evident until after the CR has been replaced with DR within a practice.

Incremental increases in productivity are critical to help veterinary practices handle ever-larger numbers of patients while balancing staffing requirements, and successfully providing value-based care. The workflow improvements with DR enable veterinary practices to care for more patients without increasing staff levels.

The improved image quality possible with DR supports greater diagnostic capability and confidence, further enhancing the role of radiology as the hub of patient care. From an investment point of view, the cost of DR continues to decrease. As practice productivity has increased with DR, the return on investment (ROI) has also improved. Modern DR detectors can be shared between rooms, devices and operational units, allowing practices to creatively maximise investments.

Allow us help you make the choices that maximise your investment, and bring you the greatest benefits! Want to find out more? Contact us today!

Windows 7 support will end in 2020

Microsoft has recently announced the End of Life date for Windows 7. On January 4, 2020 or even sooner for those who decide not to download a recent security update. This means Microsoft will no longer update or support the operating system after this date.

With news that Windows 7 will no longer be supported by Microsoft means there are many users who will need to start considering about upgrading their operating system for their practice computers.

If you’re a practice that currently runs your system on Windows 7, don’t panic. PLH Medical can offer a solution.

What happens next, how will my practice be effected?

When Windows 7 reaches its End of Life phase on January 14, 2020, Microsoft will stop releasing updates and patches for the operating system. It’s likely that it also won’t offer help and support if you encounter any problems.
However, this doesn’t mean that Windows 7 will suddenly stop working. You will still be able to use Windows 7 for as long as you want. But just because you can continue to use Windows 7 doesn’t mean you should.

If you decide not to upgrade, the biggest issue you will encounter is that your system will not be patched for any new viruses or security upgrades. This leaves your system extremely vulnerable.

While you have a number of choices when moving operating systems, for many people, the obvious and simplest option is to simply upgrade to Windows 10, a task that PLH Medical can help you with.

For more details or to arrange your upgrade, please get in touch.
